Bieito González Rey

‘It can be painful to think that I had been in the wrong places all my life, first as a student, since I was 3 years old, then as a teacher, since I was 27, in different educational centers and schools, carrying out different methodologies, suffering them almost always, looking for a way of doing and being that did not arrive. But the truth is that I am immensely lucky to be here today, in the company of children, adults and other animals, practicing what is so obvious that it is always forgotten, learning every day from everyone, including myself, growing with the mistakes, enjoying as the Gándara kids do, in a natural environment that arouses curiosity and calls for autonomy.

When I got the opportunity to work here I didn’t think about it, I didn’t have to do it. I knew it was going to be difficult, exhausting, demanding, I knew it would be worth it. I was not wrong. Nature is always right.

Because it is true what is said: “Gándara is Gándara”… And I had no experience here… but, somehow, it is the school that I always imagined, the school that I would like to have created. There is a lot of me in here, under the trees.’

Bieito has a degree in Economics from the University of Vigo. He also has a Master in Sustainable Development and the CAP Master (Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude). He worked in Portugal and Ireland and returned to Galicia to devote himself to the field of “education”.
